There’s still time to catch Basel-based artist Jung-Yeun Jang’s solo exhibition showing at the Anja Edith Brinckmann Gallery in Basel until 11 April 2025. This vibrant event is a retrospective of thirty-seven works by Jang, spanning from 2002 to 2025.
Born in Seoul, South Korea in 1966, Jang has an impressive educational background including a Fine Arts Degree from Seoul Women's University, studies at the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, and a Fine Art Master’s Degree from FHNW in Basel.
Jang's pivotal move from Seoul to Paris in 1990, where she subsequently lived for about ten years before making the shift to Basel, fed her early fascination of western culture. It furthermore provided significant impetus to her artistic development and career, helping her to carve out a strong and influential following in both her native country and Europe.

Jang's works reflect the contrasts of a personal journey, captured in large-format paintings that depict both bustling, nostalgic scenes of Paris and serene, introspective views of traditional home interiors. Adding another layer, she paints many figurative pieces featuring women in various perspectives and moods—laughing, dreaming, or posing with a gently, seductive allure.
Undeniably, Jang's exploration reflects the spirit of the cities she has embraced, along with the emotions they inspire—be they tangible or wistful, grounded in reality or born from fleeting imagination.

I like Jang's style depicted here with "La terre promise" and "Frohsinn". Beautiful use of colours.
Incredible, great read! ✨
